Blessings Everyone! I would like to take some time to talk about Imbolc which is February 2nd. This day is known to many as Groundhog Day and many Christians celebrate Candlemas. Imbolc is celebrated as the Sun gains strength and starts to rule our days more and more. We still have a ways to go in winter but as the Sun god regains his rule he warms the earth which starts life budding. We celebrate the Goddess Brighid, goddess of light and fire. We also celebrate the milk that drops in the lambs ready to give birth, the return of life giving forces. The time of Imbolc is the time to meditate, cleanse and purify. For new beginnings or any changes that need to be made. It is a time of transformation. There are many crafts and fun things to do at Imbolc including a corn dollies with a brides bed, an acorn wand or Brighid’s cross, take a walk and notice any signs of spring, take time to notice the days are longer. This is the time of year to cleanse and purify your home. Smudge Away! Light candles and let them burn for at least an hour (NEVER NEVER LEAVE A LIT CANDLE UNATTENDED). Cleanse and Reconsecrate your tools and altar. My altar is laid with a soft pink and white cloth with pink and white candles alternating in a circle. I have 1 taper candle of Silver and 1 taper candle of white for goddess and god respectively. I have strewn herbs of lavender, jasmine, heather and angelica root and blessed thistle. I have an amethyst and a garnet placed beside my Bride’s (for Brighid) cup. I have carnations of pink, yellow and white in between my goddess and god candles.
